A backflow prevention device stops contaminated water from being drawn back into the drinking water supply. If a building has any cross-connection risk, whether that is irrigation, fire services, commercial kitchens, cooling towers, dental or medical equipment, or boosted water supplies, the law requires a testable backflow prevention device to be installed and tested every 12 months by an accredited plumber. Fenech Plumbing & Gas installs, repairs and annually tests backflow devices, and lodges the certificate so your building stays compliant.
Backflow happens when a drop in water pressure (a burst main, heavy fire-service demand) or back-pressure pulls water backwards through the plumbing. Without protection, chemicals, waste or other contaminants can be siphoned into the potable supply. A backflow prevention device, an RPZ, double check or testable valve sized to the hazard rating, physically prevents that reverse flow.
Backflow testing pairs with our strata plumbing and commercial maintenance programs, and with TMV testing, so we can cover all of a building's annual compliance in one schedule.
Tell us about your building and how many devices need testing, and we'll schedule the test, handle the certificate, and set an annual reminder.
Testable backflow prevention devices are common in strata, commercial and managed buildings with boosted water, fire services, irrigation, cooling towers or commercial kitchens. If your property has one, the law requires it to be tested every 12 months by an accredited backflow tester, with the results lodged with your water authority.
Testable backflow prevention devices must be tested every 12 months under AS 2845.3 and your local water authority's requirements (for example Sydney Water). We track due dates across your portfolio so testing never lapses.
Yes. After testing we complete the compliance paperwork, lodge the certificate with the relevant water authority and give you a copy for your records, so the building stays compliant without extra admin for you.
As accredited testers we can repair or replace a failed device and re-test it in the same visit, so you don't need to arrange a second contractor before the building can be certified compliant.
